Tips for Maternity & Newborn Photos
  •  The best time to do the photo shoot is between your 34th and 38th week of pregnancy.

  •  Be sure that the selected time is when you will be relaxed and rested.   Don't schedule too many
appointments on the day of the shoot so you can relax and enjoy the experience!

  •  Eat a good meal before the photo shoot.

  •  Have your change of clothes ironed and ready to go.  Clothing selections will be discussed prior to the
    photo shoot.

  •  Prior to the shoot, be careful not to wear any elastic over any area of your body that will be
photographed.  (waist-bands, bra straps, sock marks, etc)

  •  Make sure that you have the appropriate make-up and hair products required for the photo shoot.  A
subtle, natural look (foundation, powder and mascara) is recommended.  Eye-liner and shadow, blush
and lip-color is also fine but make sure it is not too dark.  (No shimmer/sparkle make-up or cream)

  •  Remember that your hands will be a focal point of some of the photos, so make sure that your nails and
jewelry are to your satisfaction.  (Dad's hands will be in the photos too)

  •  If you have specific ideas that might involve props please let me know ahead of time so we can both be
prepared at the time of the shoot.

  •  If you would like your spouse, children or pets in the photos, make sure that they are also prepared with
regards to open schedules, meals, clothing preparation, grooming, etc.

  •  One of the  best times to photograph your baby is within the first 2 weeks when babies are still very
sleepy.  For those snuggled up and sound asleep shots, the first seven days are best.  This is when baby
is still very small and will still curl up very easily.

  •  Newborn photo shoots are "clothing optional":-)  Newborns photograph best in bare skin when the
wrinkles and folds of the skin can be seen.  You may bring some blankets, hats or other items from home
to personalize your portraits or choose from a selection in the studio.

  •  Mom & Dad should bring long sleeve black shirts and Mom should bring a solid color tank top.

  •  Please feed your little one prior to making your way to your photo shoot.  For the ride over, leave the
baby in a loose diaper and swaddled in a smooth blanket.  This way there is less disturbance when we
begin the shoot and we can avoid red marks and indentations on the skin from diapers and tight clothing.
Milestones are reached at approximately 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age.

  •  Another great time to do photos is at about 3 months when your baby can hold his or her head up and
    can smile a genuine smile.

  •  The next milestone is when baby learns to sit at about 6 months.

  •  Usually by 9 months, baby is pulling up and standing with support.

  •  And of course the first steps usually come with that special first birthday.
